Main message: Solomon (Ecclesiastes 7–10) describes life "under the sun" as crooked and unsatisfying because of sin, and gives practical wisdom for how to live wisely now while trusting that Jesus is the one who will ultimately make things right.

• Let sorrow teach you — pause in loss and mourning to gain perspective and change your priorities.
• Be neither unrighteous (seeking satisfaction in the world) nor self-righteous (trusting your own goodness); your righteousness comes from God.
• Justice doesn't always appear to win in this life, but God will ultimately set things right.
• Prepare for the unfair — "time and chance" affect everyone; suffering is not always punishment for personal sin.
• Small follies (bad habits, careless words, bitterness, laziness, boredom) compound and can ruin a life more than one big failure.
