Main message: Live a life God can bless by rooting your request for blessing in a right relationship with God — because God is the sovereign source of blessing and blessings flow through a pure, obedient heart rather than a formulaic prayer.

• The story of Jabez (1 Chron. 4:9–10) shows Jabez asked God to bless and enlarge his territory, but the passage begins by noting Jabez’s honorable character — blessing starts with character.
