How does the AI generate a devotional from a sermon?

We transcribe the sermon, summarize the main teaching, and then ask a single AI pass to produce the full devotional in structured JSON. Every Bible reference is fetched from a trusted translation (NET by default) and cached — we never let the AI write verse text from memory.

Which Bible translation is used?

Daily readings are shown in the NET Bible® by default, with one-click Bible Gateway links to compare in NIV, NKJV, and ESV. We're working on adding KJV, WEB, ASV, and BSB as in-app options.

Can I share a devotional with friends or my small group?

Yes. From any devotional you can create a share link that's either public, restricted to specific people, or visible only to your followers. Personal notes and AI chat are private by default and only included if you explicitly opt in for that share.

What sermon sources are supported?

Most YouTube sermon links work out of the box. You can also upload audio files (MP3, M4A, WAV) up to a generous size limit. We focus the AI on the sermon itself and skip welcomes, announcements, worship banter, and outros.

Can my church create a page on Custom Devotions?

Yes — anyone can add a church and it goes live immediately. Pastors and staff can then claim the church (auto-approved when the email domain matches the church website, otherwise an admin reviews the claim).

Are my notes and AI chat private?

Your personal notes and AI chat conversations are private by default. They're never indexed by search engines and are only ever visible to others if you choose to include them in a specific share link.

Can I use Custom Devotions on my phone?

Yes. The web app works on any modern mobile browser, and a native iOS and Android app is available with offline-friendly reading, native reminders, and haptics.

How do daily reminders work?

When you enable reminders, the app schedules a local notification on your device at the time you choose. Nothing is sent from a server — reminders work even without internet and never share your data with us.
